this whole theory can be explained simply by the fact that Xscape was based on rehearsals/outtakes, which is why Michael’s voice doesn’t sound 100% right - he wasn’t trying to get it just right like he would if it were a final studio recording

@Etanarachel I think he could also rely on 99% of the public being so utterly starstruck by the fact that he was Michael fucking Jackson that they simply wouldn’t register a lot of the inappropriate behaviour

He wasn't socially awkward though. He was extremely charming and charismatic. His childlike behavior was an affect he put on because he liked to think of himself as a child, and because he could get away with it.

@g00doldays I think he was just severely socially awkward. You have to realize that he was abused everyday starting from age 7 and was forced to work constantly. He never had a childhood and was isolated from other children

I'm confused how people don't get that Rachel Menken is clearly not the same type of Jewish as characters like Faye or Roger's second wife Jane. She's very clearly not from a fully assimilated secular family.

@Etanarachel It really wasn't central, not just not as central. Most American Jews' relationship to it was largely abstract. Donations were as concrete as it got for most people. But all that aside, the way it's written still clearly concerns Weiner's own views.

I don’t think it’s “obviously” Weiner’s own personal view, I think it’s very clearly what a lot of American Jews were thinking and feeling about Israel in 1960

Friend's watching Mad Men S1 for the 1st time. It's funny how obvious it is that Rachel's explanation of Israel's importance is just Weiner's view. The "utopia" bit & "I'll visit but I don't have to live there, but it just has to exist" are presented as deep & weighty ideas lol.

@dieworkwear I second Edison Pen Co.! I’ve been using one of their Beaumont pens for ~10 years with no trouble. I was also able to tour their factory, their passion for the craft as well as their customer service is impeccable.

I don't understand why the Prez doesn't use a fountain pen. A Sharpie is undignified for such important docs. Several companies, such as Franklin-Christoph and Edison Pen Co., make fountain pens in the US for about $150/ pen. Not an unreasonable expense for a man in a gold room.
