Over the holiday i worked on a side project for fun, building an Evolutionary Neural Network, can handle multiple networks at the same time, feel free to try it out if you want. Was a fun side project (its only 5mb) drive.google.com/file/d/1ZD1uU7…

@JordanMossy as a side note i also think that this effect will be now or less pronounced based on genre. Some genres require higher density or more defined prototypes to br able to prove them out

@JordanMossy I mostly agree with you, i think the rest can enhance it and sometimes the lack of it might stop people from appreciating the core as well.

I have to disagree here, having worked on a lot of games that never nailed the mechanics at greybox well before the art, they became cancelled projects. Yes, sure some games rely heavily on the art lifting the experience, but if the gameplay isn't fun at it's MVP it won't work.
Kaplan@Kappische

This is one of the biggest lies in gamedev. You need almost all the components of the game to properly understand how entertaining a game is. It’s extremely hard to evaluate a game just based on greyboxing

@thomasmahler Completely agree, does not seem like they have a competent judge panel to be honest and as mentioned they are lacking a lot of disciplines

Strongly have to agree here. It feels like the TGA's have always celebrated the games industry as a business, but not developers themselves. It'd be fantastic if we could celebrate those unsung heroes, artists, designers, engineers, etc. instead of 'what's the most hype game coming out?'

Feels like there are some underrepresented disciplines at the game awards - where’s best level design? Technical achievement award? A lot of the categories don’t even feel centered on the craft of video games

@nafonsopt Yeah to be fair they might have had to come up with this solution because the managers could not justify the cost of refactoring whatever mess they have going on?

@Not_ThisWorld I confess that I can't help but to feel some compassion towards the guy that went "This is so fucked up, I'm never going to be able to fix it..... What if we just relaunch it?"

Its incredible how many times the friction to start something boils down to a task being too big and nebulous in the abstract. Just starting something no matter how small tends to be the solution 99% of the time.
