@DannyDrinksWine Just a mean spirited nasty little film, a film that betrayed its creator as a self loathing misanthrope

Todd Solondz's "Happiness" (1998) premiered at Cannes and won the festival’s critics’ award, but Sundance refused to screen it. Universal’s then C.E.O., Ronald Meyer, personally blocked its distribution, deeming it morally objectionable.
The debacle drummed up buzz around Solondz, who became the focus of cultish press coverage. When Universal declined to release the film, distributors lined up to cash in on the controversy, which in many ways seems to be the independent world’s answer to the blockbuster: shock sells.
Solondz said, “I was just happy, I made a movie, people seemed to be excited by it, and I was excited by what I had to express. I was the flavor of the month, and I knew it, I took advantage of that position.”

P.S: On this day, 28 years ago, "Happiness" (1998) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, France.

WELL I was assaulted by a schizo homeless guy today in Toronto.
I was walking to the grocery store when he started stalking me. I tried to get away from him but it didn’t work. He grabbed me, pinned me against a fence, and then tried to break my hand to steal my phone. Three people passing by helped save me.
The police were quick and kind, but the officer I spoke with told me this guy had been arrested for attacking people repeatedly in the past month, and “fair warning, a judge will probably let him out by tomorrow morning.”
🫠 lovely system we got goin on here folks

Ari Fleischer: "England in the 1200s threw out all its Jews. France in the 1300s threw out all its Jews. Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and Russia…threw out its Jews."
"These people protesting at that synagogue in New York, if they could, they would throw out all the Jews from NYC."
