@agent_of_change Well said! A neoliberal train system works out as well as a privatised water system. Both just see essential public infrastructure as a means of corporate financial extraction with the state always there to bail everything out when the shit (quite literally) hits the fan!

@MichaelLCrick @YouGov Economically/culturally yes, but politically it’s Edinburgh. The UK is the most centralised country in Europe, including Malta! My home city would more like Bilbao if we had federalism, and Manchester would be more like Milan. However we are run like an empire from London!

@ThomasTParker It’ll be Brentford winning it next season. If Porto, Fenerbahce, Betis, Roma (who might all be in the CL next season) don’t classify as “elite” then all your “argument” here does is solidify the PL financial doping and European football being broken because of that.

The fawning over Unai Emery from our fans is knocking me ill, he’s done great with Villa but he beat Bologna, Nottingham Forest and Freiburg to win the Europa League, we had to beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool for our trophy, stop the revisionism Howe’s was more impressive 👍🏻

@ghartless The issue is the Premier League is the European Super League and there are teams in the EPL who - on top of being financially doped compared to European teams - then also dope themselves even further by selling their own women’s team to themselves - and they get away with it!

So apparently, Villa have too much revenue to fairly compete for the Europa League but not enough to fairly compete for the Premier League or Champions League. Does anyone know what we are allowed to win? Is the League Cup acceptable? Or is our advantage over Stoke too offensive?

The gap is so large, at the moment. Villa were in a different stratosphere to Freiburg tonight. Forest beating the Portuguese champions and the 2nd best team in Turkey despite how poor they’ve been says it all about the difference in level. If my maths is right Villa have spent over EIGHT times more than Freiburg in the last 3 summer windows.

Wonder if it’s dawned on Uefa how much the dire format change has weighted the Europa League and Conference League in favour of English clubs. Premier League clubs have budgets to blow counterparts out of the water and Villa are blowing Freiburg away.

HS2 is only a failure if you assess success by the building of the railway. The British state is not set up to build things though. It is set up to transfer money to banks, property developers, law firms and speculators. If we judge HS2 by this then it has been a spectacular success. Minimal building and maximum looting.
