@Critical_Scribe I was thinking the same thing recently, I absolutely love OP, and Luffy is a cool character, but there’s no way he’s better written than others in that list.

Luffy at the top is a… choice. I love the character, but he’s extremely simple to write. He’s a traditionally romantic character with a flat character arc. You can say that he has some development but at his core he’s pretty much the same from day one. How Oda handles the world getting bent by Luffy’s actions is where the skilled writing comes in, as he spins A LOT of plates to make each action have the appropriate ripples across the world. Luffy is the force of nature that changes the world. It’s an extremely powerful tool, but him by himself isn’t that hard to nail down. He loves adventure and food and fights for his friends, that’s pretty much it. By being himself and showing the spirit of adventure, he changes the perspectives of people and that in turn completes their arcs to make One Piece so complex. Someone is going to take this as me saying he’s a bad character, I just know it.
