I get why political scientists and non-Americans hate primaries, and think parties should pick their own candidates in smoke-filled rooms. But as someone who’s lived through that system here in NJ, I’m afraid I have to disagree. Most accountability can only come from voters.

@electionsjoe I tend to support closed primaries in CA. It might be good to have one Dem and one Repub on the general election ballot in every election. This would have to be implemented by way of ballot initiative. 2/
