🏥 What has faith got to do with the social determinants of health? 👳♂️ What role to faith leaders have to play in public health? 🕌 How does diversity in jurisprudence work with health policy? These are some of the questions we discussed in our @BritishIMA @theCIM_info roundtable this weekend, where we focused on cancer screening and vaccination. A snippet of what we talked about: The issue of trust, and in particular state/industry based harm, was high on the table. Whose authority do the scholars trust especially where there is perceived conflict? Where does religion stop and culture begin? Faith literacy for health professionals and health education for scholars needs to be formalised. Feedback from scholars on the health promotion material BIMA have already produced was broadly supportive and complementary, with a few suggestions on what things to improve uptake of screening and informed discussions on vaccination. Thanks to all those who braved Storm Bert to be with us! This is the second roundtable we've hosted, having previously looked at organ donation and human milk banks. An insights paper will be produced soon and shared with @NHSEngland @DHSCgovuk @UKHSA to help improve initiatives that keep our communities safe, recognise the potential (and limitations) of faith-based engagement, and form the basis for greater investment in this innovative medium to address longstanding inequity and inequality.
