HOLY SHIT. Just tested the StarVR One on wimfov, and it's vertical FOV is higher than most headsets' horizontals nowadays 🤣 Special thanks to Nyabsi for the custom drivers!

Been messing around with the StarVR One lately, put together a patched driver so it plays nice with modern hardware/software.

Last weekend I spent ~2 days configuring an Linux installation specifically for playing VR using SteamVR. I was surprised it actually works really well! I would argue my performance might be even better than on Windows ;) Made a gist about my insights, ps. it's not guide. 👇

I was using my Main computer which runs on Linux, while I do own an Apple device running macOS, why the hell is discord syncing my audio device configuration over to my Linux computer...?

Something that slightly pisses me off is that AMD broke their Direct Mode (liquidvr) on anything newer than 25.4.1 drivers. While there is a known workaround, I don't believe this should be acceptable behavior.

Did you know? In Pico OS you can actually replace the system UI components with anything. This is because their system UI uses Android actions that can be exported by any other application, and by default it will ask the user which activity do you prefer for this action.

What this allows me to do for example: override the controller type of the system, here you can see Pico 4 Controllers being displayed on Pico 4 Ultra.

PXRConfig in Pico OS controls everything about your device—model, lens distortion, performance settings. In older versions, only apps with a UID >1000 could modify these settings. But they added a whitelist to bypass that, letting user-space apps interact with the API.

This oversight is caused by the package "com.pico.spatial.gtestloader" in /system/etc/pxrconfig/whitelist/configurationwhitelist.json, which is never actually installed on the device. This allows interaction with the API without requiring to be an system application.

People often ask why I dislike Meta Quest products. Here's my experience: broken software, visual issues, and a required network connection for anything to work. Add a new account and it boot loops—thankfully, I had ADB. It's just beyond repair.
