Horizon Worlds is officially being discontinued on Meta Quest headsets. You will no longer be able to access Horizon Worlds at all on the headset and unfortunately Hyperspace co-op rooms are going away as well which is a real travesty. This is both exciting and sad honestly. Sad for those who spent so much time building worlds. Exciting to see Meta continues its streamlining of the Quest platform towards VR gaming.

Getting closer to release, the iVRy app/driver for Vision Pro. Although the app/driver/network is able to sustain 7.3K rendering @ 90Hz, the M2 throttles after a few minutes. The highest practical resolution for M2 is 5.7K @ 90Hz, which it can sustain indefinitely.

James Cameron says Meta has a new generation of HMDs coming out that is pretty spectacular and he’s looking at that becoming an entirely new streaming business model. It doesn’t have to be immersive VR where you can look all around. It will be more like passive entertainment like a wall mounted display. @bmfshow Finally some good news! Now get rid of Horizon Worlds everywhere.

Looks like with update V85 on the quest they are already making some meaningful changes. They're working on sunsetting the horizon feed entirely for everyone and when the headset boots up it boots directly to the new navigator menu. This could be a sign of moving away from Horizon worlds for the front page of everything on Quest, which would be massive for developers. And a step in the right direction already.

Maybe now that Meta is pulling back on Horizon Worlds it can go back to promoting quality VR games in the Horizon Store instead of interspersing them with amatuer user-generated content.

We have a really exciting event planned for Sunday 28th December at 8pm GMT - a professional stand up comedian will be performing live in VR. This event is only for users who are verified as 18+.

VR is doomed! When I started working on VR six years ago, I envisioned it differently. I seriously believed it would become the next computing paradigm. But now it has become a tool to attract kids and nihilistic adults. It doesn't make sense to build for these people.

@benz145 Do you think the quality of the headset is what’s holding back retention? IMO it’s the software and friction in using the device that’s letting it down more.

Thinking about the reporting that Meta may raise prices on its headsets so that it's making a profit on the hardware. What are the practical effects? It sounds bad for customers, but it may force Meta more broadly to up the quality and value of headsets if they want to actually convince someone to buy an $800 device. The alternative that they've been using is "make it cheap enough for someone to try," but then they don't see much retention because the value isn't there for most people. And if they're breaking even or maybe even losing money on each headset sold (and those sales don't convert to long-term usage) that's obviously a problem long term.
