The MSU Denver Literacy Research Center and Clinic is conducting an Early Adolescent Literacy Impact study that teaches 4th and 5th grade students how to read and write across multiple texts and disciplines in 1-hour lessons. We are studying a multidimensional reading model.

@LizStepan @AlfredTatum That seems like a small group thing. But I appreciate that for years many 3 4 and 5 teachers did not have those skills to teach syllable types. If those 4th graders get the skills they need then that is a win

@AlfredTatum One of the most popular curriculums that is “based on” the SoR still spends class time teaching syllable types in 4th grade. In whole class instruction. These students need to be way beyond basic phonics skills by then.

More than nine 4th & 5th graders in our reading clinic were unable to spell reading, writing, agree, know, & which. This is happening in our country and a state that have legislated reading policy. We are moving these students to advanced levels of reading and writing.
