Peggy Burrows was sacked in 2016 by the commissioner assigned to Rangiora High School for committing “a significant breach of privacy”. It’s worth noting that the MOE sacked the Board of Trustees at the school in 2015 and also stood Burrows down. Also of note, she appealed her dismissal and was awarded $150k in reparations from the ERA. It’s worth noting that she is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) “focussing on bicultural leadership in Aotearoa New Zealand and the importance for equity of adopting kaupapa Māori principles to leadership practice and pedagogy”. Interestingly, since Peggy has been the Principal at Haeata Community Campus, the role has dropped from over 900 students to approximately 550. And finally, it’s interesting that this school has been pushing hard for an exemption from the Govt/Compass School lunch programme, claiming they have all the facilities on site to make wholesome lunches whilst making numerous complaints regarding the free lunches supplied since Compass took over the contract.
