That’s how it’s done! I left Syracuse 20 years ago and haven’t felt this optimistic about SU basketball since before I left . A good day for the program. Great for sports talk in Syracuse too.

@NunesMagician “New” must hire? It’s always been GMac. Will the new AD actually hire anyone BUT GMac? Unless GMac turns down an offer—talk about starting off on the wrong foot. Especially after yesterday’s performance. It HAS to be GMac. I’m guessing those big $ donors will have some input.

On @CuseSportsTalk_, Syracuse AD Bryan Blair says SU has not offered men's basketball job to any candidate. Did not mention names. Or provide more info. Refutes anonymous reports that Bryan Hodgson turned the job down to a point. Still a lot of wiggle room for what did happen.

I don’t disagree with anything here and think you hit on something important: Gerry is such a legendary part of the program’s history that I think fans will give him a lot more leeway than pretty much any other possible coach. Hell, as skeptical as I am, I’m also a dude with two GMac jerseys and an “Overrated!?” tshirt hanging in my closet and at least once a year I rewatch his Senior Day tribute video. He’ll have a longer runway than anyone else.

@OttosGrove Unless GMac turns down the job—not sure a coach out there takes it. It’s as close to a no win situation as there can be. GMac will get some slack to develop the kids while anyone else will be on a short leash. Fans and media will crucify him if they’re not winning.

At this point, my order would be:
1 Luke Murray
2. GMac
3. Martelli
I always hated the idea of keeping it in the family but GMac gets his players to play hard and would up NIL more than probably anyone. At this point, not an elite coach but he could win with the budget Autry had this year. You could have given Autry all the money in the world and he wouldn’t win. So that’s important. He’s good enough to win with money
