@PlatoonPod So many stories built off the misinterpretation of orders given by organics to their synthetic servants. Take a look into Mass Effect, in which an AI was tasked to "preserve life at all costs", and it caused an endless cycle of galactic harvesting, followed by extinction.

There's a bit in the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (written in 1979) where the heroes come upon an intergalactic flight has been grounded for thousands of years. Its automated systems told it not to launch until it was fully stocked up with lemon-soaked paper napkins, for the comfort of its passengers. But the surrounding civilization collapsed, and the napkins never arrived. Consequently it put all the passengers into hibernation (waking them once every few hundred years for coffee and biscuits) until such time as another civilization might arise, and restock its lemon-soaked paper napkins. The Guide is a more accurate and prophetic account of modernity than most Very Serious Science Fiction writers could dream of creating.

You meet all sorts of interesting folk at these events. The Dutch Brigade SGM (equivalent) taught me about all the silly games played on King's Day. The British LT about how they get dressed for dinner so much they don't think of it as getting dressed up. The Irish... well... that's just craic. And my Lieutenant I found who is at ABOLC thinks the course is far too easy, what a pity his course SCO was at the next table over. (To be clear, he doesn't actually think the course is easy, but that didn't stop me from calling over the other guy....)

@TerraDraca @YourPalRags Seen that going around. Even if they post proof, like a timelapse or rough drafts, those can be faked too. The amount of distrust in the world of online art has gone to ridiculous levels. I feel bad for real artists whose work isn't getting the recognition it deserves anymore.

@PlatoonPod We did get a half-decent Star Trek movie out of the poor little guy, so there's that.

I've always thought Voyager 1 would've been a good premise for a Pixar movie (back when they were reliably good). Cute, plucky little spaceship getting further away from home, wonders why the humans are taking longer and longer to get back to him. Is he not doing a good job? He goes around doing all sorts of experiments, dodging asteroids and other space dangers, working really hard, but eventually the humans just stop talking to him altogether. He gets sad and lonely. Maybe he bumps into a little alien probe who becomes his friend. They have to work together to accomplish some big thing, but they both have to head home after. Voyager gets sad, because he's leaving his friend and going back to a planet that he thinks has forgotten him, but as he gets closer, all the messages the humans have been sending him start coming through, faster and faster. They never forgot, he was just too far away, but they kept sending him messages hoping he'd hear them one day. The theme would be something wholesome like "know that you are loved, even when life gets tough, even if you don't hear it every day. An adventure isn't good because it's easy." Vague Wall E meets Project Hail Mary vibes.
