This morning I had a substantive meeting at @NATO HQ with @SecGenNATO Mark Rutte. We discussed the security of #Romania and NATO's key role in its strengthening. I welcomed SecGen's determination for NATO to deliver security to all Allies and his assessment that Romania plays an important role within the Alliance. We addressed the strategic importance of the Black Sea and the need for the region to be kept high on NATO’s agenda. We agreed that Eastern Sentry has to deliver a more focused deterrence and defence along the entire Eastern Flank. We also discussed the need for increased defence investments and a stronger defence industrial capacity. I underlined our national plans to further develop our industry. I also expressed our firm commitment to continue to support Ukraine in its self-defence. I invited Secretary General Rutte to the #B9 Plus Summit in Bucharest this May, ahead of the NATO Summit in Ankara. Romania’s security is NATO’s security. #WeAreNATO

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran.
