Getting off OxyContin was easier (I was prescribed 240mg a day (going up to 480mg a day for 3 of those months) for a year. Getting off OxyContin was definitely horrible for about 6 weeks, but getting off SSRIs gave me akathisia off and on for 2.5 years.

"Were the Ottomans a colonial power?" is not a conversation I'm especially interested in because tying the early Ottoman conquests to Edward Said or Franz Fanon is not something that's of any real intellectual value.
But I don't know how anyone could read local Christian accounts of the Ottoman conquests of the Balkans and not think of the fate of indigenous peopls of the Americas. Dumbarton Oaks does both Byzantine and Pre-Columbian American stuff together and it's not a cosmic coincidence. "But one was from Extremadura and one was from Hüdâvendigâr" is not a convincing argument.
Once you start hitting the Ottoman Empire of the 19th century, you're dealing with a dysfunctional state unable and unwilling to reform itself past its roots as an early modern conquest state with extractive institutions and a mentality that privilges the power of the dynasty, which sounds like Austria or Spain.
