The Committee heard evidence as to the deficiencies of the current law especially its prioritisation of financial contributions and its discriminatory impact on women. @gsf1996 said the law is ‘not fit for purpose. It does not help our clients. It does not help society’ - 3/12.

Committee calls on the Gov to draft legislation for pre-legislative scrutiny in the 2023-2024 Session of Parl. The Ministry of Justice is requested to look again at the Law Com's Cohabitation: The Financial Consequences of Relationship Breakdown proposals, issued in 2007 - 9/12.

Speaking for myself, I hope that these recommendations are taken seriously by the Gov and that the pressing need for cohabitation reform is recognised and acted upon. I will be working on projects with academics and practitioners to hopefully bring about meaningful change - 11/12
