AI is driving US economic growth: Investment in software and IT equipment contributed +134 basis points to Q1 2026 GDP growth of 2.0%, the largest quarterly contribution in history. This means that 67% of last quarter's economic growth was driven by AI. To put this differently, without this AI-driven tech investment, Q1 GDP growth would have been close to flat. This contribution also exceeds the 1999 record by ~10 basis points. Over the last 5 quarters, investment in software and IT equipment contributed +90 basis points on average per quarter, the most for any 5-quarter period on record. The US economy has become highly reliant on AI.

Are boots on the ground coming to Iran? The Trump administration is reportedly preparing for major military operations to force the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. @WeTheBrandon reports that key U.S. military assets are now being positioned near Iran, with discussions of a coastal island takeover that could drag the United States into a prolonged war. What is this operation really meant to accomplish? Can the Strait actually be secured through military force, or are we walking into another endless conflict with no clear exit? We discuss that, and more, in this interview.

This is truly unfortunate: In 2022, JetBlue had agreed to merge with Spirit Airlines in a $3.8 billion transaction. This was intended to end Spirit's imminent bankruptcy and employ the majority of Spirit's 17,000 employees. One year later, in 2023, the US Department of Justice sued to block the merger, saying it would reduce competition and drive up fares. Fast forward another 2 years to today, and Spirit has officially gone bankrupt, ceased operations, and 17,000 people are now unemployed. And, tens of thousands of Spirit passengers are now "stranded." The worst part? The "reduced competition" that the DOJ thought they were avoiding by blocking the transaction has only gotten worse. There quite literally is no competition in the space anymore. This will go down as one of the biggest transactional failures in US history.

@OMS_Capital @EconAtState Just don’t invest there right now. Under dictator Bukele it is the slowest economy of the region, and the country with the highest fiscal deficit: 90% to 100% of dinestic product. With judiciary controlled by the Bukeles, do it only if you are in cahoots with the Bukele family

El Salvador is a critical partner of the United States in the Western Hemisphere. President Bukele’s law-and-order miracle has not only brought freedom and safety for the Salvadoran people, it’s creating one of the best investment climates in the entire region. Our foreign policy interest is for U.S. businesses to participate in and help power El Salvador’s renaissance. Yesterday, Assistant Secretary Orr spoke to a group of over 75 American firms considering investments in El Salvador that will bring prosperity to both our countries.

Fixed Income Guy (top 0.1% on bloomberg)
Had a Jane Street interview in 2014 At the end of my 5th round, was told to “look for a sign” for instructions to my 6th round A week goes by. I thought maybe I didn’t make it. I’m out on a Saturday in Gramercy. I go up to bar to order drinks. Some guy is wearing a fi-bro vest behind me when I turn around He tells me, “chug that” ?? “Who are you?!?” “Your 6th round. Chug that” I instantly knew this was my sign. I impressed him with my 3.5 sec beer chug. He noted “above average of 6.2 seconds” He told me to close my eyes “Give me the count of girls in this bar and how many blondes is it” “46 with 13 blondes” I knew instantly “Situational awareness at all times. Good.” Then he turned around and left. I get a call the next day at 5am. I answer “good to see you always online like a true sell sider you are. When can you start working for us?” I said “is the pay 100% commission?” “No? We aren’t that cool” “Never mind then”

Jane Street made ~$40B in 2025 with 3,500 employees, a ~2x from the year before. At ~65-70% profit margin, that's $8M profit / employee, the highest for a 1000+ ppl company. High-frequency trading continues to be the most efficient money making engine. I want to share an old story about my Jane Street interview in 2014. Jane Street was known for hiring a lot of math, physics and CS olympiad winners from top universities and putting them through many rounds - including, for trading roles, a gauntlet of mental math. It was my 6th interview and my final round and I recall being asked "What is the next day after today in DD/MM/YYYY where all the digits are unique?" They'd toy with you and say "You can use a pencil and paper, if you want" but you knew that was an instant no. Painstakingly and as quickly as I could, I came to an answer. "How confident are you that this is correct on a 0-1 probability scale?" the interviewer said. "0.95", I blurted out, not fully knowing how to answer that. "Are you sure?" After thinking harder for a few more seconds, I realized I could've flipped the digits around to get a closer date. I gave the interviewer my answer. It was correct. "0.95 huh?" he chuckled. That's when I knew I failed. Note: fwiw, other companies that come close in efficiency are - Tether ($90M+ profit/emp) - Hyperliquid ($80M+ profit/emp) and on revenue: - Valve ($50M/emp) - OnlyFans ($37M/emp) - Craigslist ($14M/emp) - Anthropic ($12M/emp, run rate) - OpenAI ($8M/emp, run rate) For comparison, Nvidia is very efficient at scale and is $4.4M/emp.

I don’t often call out shorts because it’s scary to short in a raging bull market, but when I do it usually ends up working out: I said $RGTX was a short at $460’s. Then it hit $18’s. I said $AGQ was a short at $390’s. Then it hit $90’s. I said $VCX was a short in the $500’s. Then it hit $77’s. I said $KORU was a short in the $600’s. Then it hit $230’s. I said $CAR was a short at $575’s. Then it hit $200’s. Search the ticker, I keep the receipts. Also notice not all of them I top ticked it, sometimes I was a day or two early about it. What do they all have in common above? ALL ULTRA PARABOLAS. The eventual and inevitable outcome of always bending backwards in price always is the same. Hence why I believe, and I said this on Thursday, that the next short is…. $SOXL Yes this is a super hot sector. And yes I was a day early. But I think you absolutely can pair trade a long $SOXX (no leverage) with a short $SOXL (3x leverage) here. It’s gone pretty ultra parabolic. Let’s see if I can go 6 for 6. Not for the faint of heart. So just toss subway sandwich amounts in case I am wrong. #timestamped
