Meet Doreen Michelo, a Zambian agripreneur tackling food insecurity through affordable, locally-grown produce. Despite sky-high interest rates, she’s built Pluck n Plate ZM formerly known as Mzala Enterprise Ltd from grit and purpose. Lower capital costs = more jobs, better food access, faster growth. #54FacesofAfrica #CutTheCost #g20social #G20Africa #Zambia

#54FacesofAfrica: Meet Nomhle Maggie Mliswa the owner of Summerhill Farm Nomhle Maggie Mliswa, known as Norma, is the powerhouse behind Summerhill Farm, one of Zimbabwe’s most impactful smart agribusinesses. From hotelier to agripreneur, she’s built a 345-hectare farm that employs over 350 people (two-thirds women), champions climate-smart agriculture and uplifts her rural community through food security, clean water, education and jobs. But like many African entrepreneurs, Norma’s journey has been shaped by the high cost of capital. Without access to affordable financing, she’s had to grow cautiously, scaling maize and wheat slowly, adopting lean operations and forming a Smart JV partnership to pool resources and resilience. Norma’s story reminds us that the cost of capital is not just financial, it’s deeply human. “Lower interest rates would let us upgrade equipment, increase yields and focus on sustainability,” she says. With the right financial tools, her impact could double boosting rural economies and feeding more families. As we tell the stories of #54FacesOfAfrica, Norma represents the spirit of Africa’s entrepreneurs: determined, visionary and ready to thrive if only capital came at a fair cost. #FinancingAfricasDreams #G20SouthAfrica #Africa

#54FacesofAfrica: Meet Pauline Otila, Kenya’s Queen Bee of Change Pauline Otila is a trailblazing Kenyan entrepreneur and founder of Apiculture Venture Limited (@apivent), home to the Golden Beehive Products brand. With over 18 years of experience, she’s turning sustainable beekeeping into a powerful tool for economic empowerment, especially for rural women and youth. Her business supports over 3,000 women, engages 6,000+ youth and works with communities across 10+ regions in Kenya to provide training, modern equipment, and a ready market for quality hive products. Guided by a mission to build an inclusive, eco-conscious apiculture ecosystem, Pauline’s work uplifts lives while preserving biodiversity through pollinator conservation and sustainable hive production. But access to capital or rather, the lack of it has defined Pauline’s journey as much as her vision has. Financing gaps exposed deep gender inequities in agribusiness, pushing her to build with creativity, collaboration, and community. High interest rates meant growing slowly and smartly investing in what mattered: training, value addition, and trust. “If we had affordable capital,” Pauline says, “we could scale faster, reach more regions, and empower even more women with dignity and income.” Her story is a reminder that when African entrepreneurs are trusted with the right tools, they don’t just grow businesses, they transform futures. 🍯✨ #54FacesOfAfrica #WomenInAgribusiness #BeeTheChange #CostOfCapital #AfricanEntrepreneurs #EconomicEmpowerment #YouthDay2025 #youthday25
