Abiodun Approves Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Transport Allowance for Ogun Workers Ogun State Governor, Prince @DapoAbiodunCON, has approved a set of palliative measures for public servants in the state, including a weekly day off duty and a ₦10,000 transport allowance, to cushion the effects of rising fuel prices and increased cost of living. The initiative, which will run for three months beginning in April 2026, is aimed at easing the burden on workers grappling with high transportation costs following the recent hike in the pump price of fuel. In a statement issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, the government said each eligible worker would observe one day off per week, in addition to receiving a monthly ₦10,000 special transport allowance during the period. Onasanya explained that the measure is designed to provide relief for workers facing commuting challenges, while also promoting improved productivity through a more motivated workforce. He, however, noted that certain categories of workers would be exempted from the weekly day-off arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties. These include medical personnel, judicial staff, teaching and non-teaching staff across all levels of education, security personnel, Accounting Officers, Heads of Departments, and other officers whose responsibilities require their physical presence. Despite the exemption, affected workers will still benefit from the ₦10,000 transport allowance. The Head of Service added that Accounting Officers in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would determine the specific day off for eligible workers in a manner that ensures uninterrupted service delivery. Describing the intervention as timely and thoughtful, Onasanya commended Governor Abiodun for prioritizing the welfare of the state’s workforce amid prevailing economic challenges. He urged workers to reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating renewed commitment, discipline, and enhanced service delivery in their respective roles. The palliative measures underscore the state government’s commitment to supporting its workforce and maintaining efficiency in public service despite current economic pressures.

@flyairpeace to Launch London Flights from Ogun’s Gateway International Airport This Summer — Onyema Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline and a leading carrier in West Africa, has announced plans to commence international flight operations from Gateway International Airport to London this summer. The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, disclosed this during an interview with journalists after inspecting the airport facilities alongside Dapo Abiodun. The visit followed the official commissioning of the airport by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to Onyema, Air Peace will operate flights connecting the airport to both London Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport, marking a significant milestone for Ogun State’s aviation sector. He praised the state government for delivering a world-class aviation facility, describing the airport as one of the best-equipped in Sub-Saharan Africa. “This is one of the best-equipped airports in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Air Peace will not sit back and watch this facility go unused,” Onyema said. “When you see a promising initiative, you must embrace it.” He emphasized that the airport’s infrastructure meets global standards and highlighted its 4-kilometre runway, capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Airbus A380. Air Peace, he noted, plans to deploy its Boeing 777 fleet for the London route. Onyema also revealed that he had received approval from the Minister of Aviation to proceed with the operations, describing the project as a national asset rather than a purely state initiative. Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, announced plans to further expand the airport’s ecosystem with the construction of an international conference and convention centre, alongside a 550-room five-star hotel. He said the development would position Ogun State as a hub for global business and tourism. The governor also disclosed that cargo operations have already commenced with Allied Air, while Ethiopian Airlines is expected to begin operations soon. Additionally, another European carrier is set to launch cargo services into the state. Abiodun projected that approximately 50 cargo flights would operate through the airport between April and the end of the year. He further revealed the establishment of Gateway Airlines, which has acquired two Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft. The 90-seater planes are expected to enhance connectivity between Ogun State, Abuja, and other major Nigerian cities. With these developments, the governor expressed confidence that the Gateway International Airport could soon become Nigeria’s third busiest aviation hub, after Lagos and Abuja.

I returned to Ogun State today with a full heart. What I saw in Iperu is the kind of progress we must insist on as a nation. Quite deliberate, and built to last. The Gateway Cargo Airport stands as proof of what is possible when vision is matched with discipline. As I said, “Our investment is about our people. Today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity.” I acknowledge Governor Dapo Abiodun @DapoAbiodunCON for his focus and consistency. Development is not about noise. It is about decisions that improve lives. From the aircraft launched today to the electric bikes, tractors, and security assets, this is what progress should look like. Practical, real, and visible. “Development must touch every level,” and I am pleased to see that principle taking shape in Ogun State. Our Renewed Hope reforms are not abstract. They have provided more resources for sub-nationals and are creating room for states to act and deliver. Many states, including Ogun, are rising to the moment. We will stay the course. “We are building for people, and we are building for prosperity.” As they say in Ogun, “Ìṣẹ́ yá…” I say, “Ìṣẹ̀ ń lọ.” The work continues. - Bola Ahmed Tinubu President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria .@ngrpresident .@nigeriagov
