See, Social Security Disability -- the most well-known disability program -- is tied to working. If you can work, you don't qualify for SSDI (generally, don't quote me, I'm not an SSDI lawyer). VA compensation is not. So when folks remember their mom not being able to work because she was on SSDI, but sees a 20 something year old vet working part time while having a rating, they don't understand and they assume fraud.

When you sign up, the government says they will compensate you for any lasting injury you incur through service. Its no more welfare then using the GI bill for college is.

I am begging someone, anyone to clean up the disability fraud in the VA. This guy was a Navy reservist who went to school for the Government and got out after 2 years with disability benefits for anxiety and depression. This has to end.

If you get lifelong injury due to service, they will pay you for it. I held up my end of the contract, now the government has to hold up theirs.
