@elliot_solution It's all about profit.. African spend most of b their lives online. They rather buy data to rant that they've not eaten then to buy the food itself.

So Amazon just shot 200+ satellites into space.
But let me tell you what this actually means, especially if you live in Ghana or Africa.
Amazon has a government deadline. The FCC told them to get 1,600 satellites up by July 2026 or lose their operating license. That is why launches are happening this fast.
Now what does this mean for us (Africa)
Starlink already entered Ghana in 2024.
And the moment it did, it started charging less than half of what our local ISPs charge.
So what happens when Amazon Leo arrives with the same model, backed by more money, more satellites, and the entire AWS cloud infrastructure behind it?
Your local ISP does not have the balance sheet to compete with Amazon. They can barely maintain their current infrastructure.
When two American giants start a price war over Africa’s internet market, African ISPs are not players in that fight.
They are the collateral.
The good news is prices will drop.
The real question is who will own the infrastructure your country runs on?
Both Starlink and Amazon Leo route your data through servers and ground stations they control, mostly outside Africa. That means your government, your hospitals, your banks, your schools, all depending on foreign pipes that a foreign government can switch off, slow down, or price however they want.
We will get cheaper internet, but we will just not own any of it.
One question is still pending, why are they rushing to own Africa’s internet? 🤔

A 33-year-old Oluwole Olumuyiwa at his Architectural Firm in Lagos, c. 1962.
Trained at the University of Manchester between 1949 and 1954, where he graduated with First Class honours in Architecture and City Planning, Olumuyiwa refined his craft across Europe. He gained valuable experience with firms such as Architects’ Co-Partnership in London, worked on modernist projects in Rotterdam with Van den Broek and Bakema, and contributed to new town developments in Emmen, Stevenage, and parts of Switzerland, including specialised training in hospital design.
In 1958, he made history as the first Nigerian-trained architect to return home and establish a private practice. By 1960, he had founded Oluwole Olumuyiwa and Associates in Lagos, laying the foundation for indigenous architectural enterprise in post-colonial Nigeria.
A pioneer in both practice and policy, Olumuyiwa became the first President of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, helping to formalise and regulate the profession. He also co-directed Africa’s first architectural review, The West African Builder and Architect, and represented Nigeria at international conferences, including the Commonwealth Association of Architects in 1964, where he later rose to leadership.
His work lives on through the skyline of Lagos and beyond.
From Eko Hotels and Suites to Crusader House on Martins Street, the Management House on Idowu Taylor Street, UAC Housing Developments, and several educational and civic buildings, Olumuyiwa helped shape the physical identity of post-colonial Lagos. #HistoryVille

🚨 JUST IN: IShowSpeed has cancelled plans to bring “My Strength Is Too Much” to the US to help his younger brother Jamal get fit. This comes after the man asked for $300,000 monthly during a livestream despite Speed already offering to cover his visa, accommodation, feeding, and even $20,000 monthly. He said: “You have money na, I know you can do it… your strength is too much.” Sources say Speed ended the stream immediately and never contacted him again. Many are calling it a missed life-changing opportunity due to bad attitude.

A lot of problems we have in this country are self inflicted because this is evidently not government induced

@buypowerng @osita_chidoka It's the standard.. wait 24 hrs
English

Hello @osita_chidoka Hello Osita, we’re truly sorry for this experience. This is not the standard we hold ourselves to at Buypower.
We understand how frustrating it must have been to have your account debited without receiving a token, especially when you needed electricity urgently.
We would really like to fix this for you as quickly as possible. We are currently in your DM to prioritize resolving this issue.
English

I used to think of @buypowerng as an innovative company that hacked the online sale of prepaid tokens until today. When I noticed they now own BuyPower MFB, I quietly applauded.
After almost 30 minutes of waiting for an agent following a failed transaction, I spoke with Funmbi. It was a disaster. She was slow, unhelpful, and had no empathy, and thats how I view Buypower now.
I used their web portal to initiate a transaction, transferring funds from my reliable @Sterling_Bankng account. I was debited, but the buyPower app said the transfer failed. I called.
Her response was "wait 24 hours, if it does not reverse or you receive a token, you can call back". I said for real? What are my options to get electricity tokens now? I need electricity now, not in 24 hours.
"Well, you can try using your bank card and if we receive the money, then you get a token" Funmbi said this in the most casual, irritatingly dismissive tone I have heard in recent times.
I asked for her name, username, or code. She said, "My name is Funmbi, no username, no code number"
And some of us are dreaming of global call centre jobs coming to Nigeria? Perish the thought. I always call helplines in Nigeria and the experience is usually not far from my buypower experience but today they took it to a new level.
The customer is not the king, more like an irritant. Helping is not the goal, and empathy is a rare-earth mineral. Sad.
Our workforce development strategy needs a rejig.

The Billions of Naira that Tinubu has pumped into his 2027 presidential campaign and the one his son Seyi Tinubu has spent on the city boys movement, is enough to fix Nigeria’s electricity problems, build better schools, roads and improve healthcare in the country.
The condition of government hospitals and schools are nothing to write home about.
