This is the kind of take one can only have from being completely oblivious and ignorant to history. It can't be dismissed that in decades prior it was easier to buy a house for different reasons. It also shouldn't be dismissed that it's not impossible or even difficult today if you've done anything right. Obviously in some markets with highly inflated home values it is more difficult technically, but those area also tend to have higher adjusted incomes too so it evens out a little e.g. you borrow more but you make more money so it's pretty much the same as buying a house in a cheaper market where the average income is also lower.
