The perfect age to marry is the age I will be when I marry. And if ever I decide not to marry, then that age doesn't exist at all.

Earlier today I was calling out Kenya Power and Lighting Company for this token system. Now look... Kenyans are buying tokens, and the SMS isn’t coming. So you’ve PAID for electricity... but you’re still sitting in the dark. How is this even acceptable? This is exactly the problem: A system where power depends on an SMS is a broken system. And it’s not the first time. KPLC, fix this.

And no one has been able to articulate how saying anal sex is abusive and degrading and blowjobs are coercive helps women or feminism. If your issue is that women are being pressured into painful sex, then isn’t the conversation supposed to be about coercion or sexual assault? Is vaginal intercourse particularly immune to coercion or pain or abuse? You haven’t pushed for autonomy, self-advocacy, boundaries, informed consent, safety/protection, mutual comfort, reporting abuse, etc — things that’ll actually help women… just jumped straight to “anal sex is abusive” and “blowjobs are coercive.” How exactly does it help women to collapse sexual coercion/violence with consensual sex by branding some forms of sex as abusive/degrading simply because you personally can’t relate to the pleasure people find from them or some people’s experiences are tainted by coercion? We are in a precision crisis. Your concerns about harm in sexual contexts are valid but that doesn’t automatically make those acts inherently abusive. The only thing that overgeneralising anal sex as abusive achieves is weaken the meaning of abuse and obscure real sexual violence. If we label consensual acts as inherently abusive, we blur the line between sex and coercion and make it harder for women to identify and report actual violations. We want women to be able to identify and report when they have been sexually violated. We don’t want them to think that any form of sex is inherently abusive or coercive so when they have been coerced, then it’s just the sex since it’s the nature of it by definition. Women used to describe sex as “painful pleasure” because they thought that was just the way it was and no one ever told them that the pain was not an inherent part of the pleasure. We’ve come a long way from dismantling this misconception only for you guys to drag us back again. And you all need to unpack your homophobia chineke. Many of you were sounding dangerously close to agreeing with the criminalisation of “carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature” in the criminal code act. Do better. This conversation has been incredibly jarring and unbearable to be honest.

This anal sex conversation is a very good example of “misandrying your way into misogyny”. Ngmi
