The UN was created as a result of the end of the Second World War. Because Russia (as the successor state to the Soviet Union) was the key power that defeated Nazi Germany in Europe, and because China (under Chiang Kai‑Shek) was the major ally of the US in defeating Imperial Japan, both Russia and China hold permanent seats on the UN Security Council, along with the US, France, and the UK, and also possess veto power. Knowing basic history goes a long way toward curing ignorance 🤷‍♂️
