If the fact that Mitole does this with his lips every time he gets a bath doesn’t make you love him more, I don’t know what will!

Just once, I'd like the conspiracy folks to explain to me what's in it for state vets to scratch healthy horses. As best as I can tell, they frustrate their bosses by reducing field size, get ripped apart on the internet, and are often verbally abused by the connections.

During some spring cleaning I came across 2 programs from the 2022 Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland, so I figured they might be appreciated more with someone else! Winners that day included Flightline, Rebel’s Romance, Caravel and Cody’s Wish 😁 ebay.us/m/S1WOAo

Breaking: a surprise entry tried to cross the track at Colonial Downs today. Sadly, he scratched before the finish line.

A gallop doesn’t tell the whole story and that’s what makes these moments so tough. You can know your horse inside out and still have a vet see something subtle that doesn’t sit right. The regulatory vets feel that weight too, they know what’s on the line. Their job is to protect the horses from the small chance that something small turns serious. Sometimes that means a horse misses their big day but the flip side is that it can keep racing because of those same precautions.

I strongly condemn the senseless attack on Charlie Kirk today. Political violence has no place in the United States of America. It further tears our country apart and sets us back versus moving us forward. Violence is always wrong. Period.

I’m SO happy to see @OffTheFarTurn recognized for all her hardwork. I’m a little biased b/c she’s my best friend but that’s given me a front row seat to see her become an absolute POWERHOUSE in the industry. She is so smart, so dedicated, + above all an advocate for the horses 🫶

🌟 Career Spotlight: Equine Medical Director 🌟 An Equine Medical Director is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of all racehorses at a racetrack, managing medical records, and ensuring compliance with health protocols. For example, Dr. Will Farmer, Churchill Downs’ Equine Medical Director, oversees all horses at CDI tracks, including Fair Grounds, Presque Isle, and even harness tracks like Oak Grove. This role involves working with veterinarians, trainers, and racing officials to establish treatment protocols, injury prevention, and recovery plans. It’s a leadership position that ensures the well-being of horses across multiple venues, making it essential to the integrity of the racing industry.

Everyone who refers to their horse as, "It," on the #EclipseAwards stage should immediately have their trophy taken out of their hands.

In a perfect world, the deal should be that every person working with our racehorses is licensed, and having that license is a privilege. But that privilege should be stripped away from people who break rules, do badly egregious things, etc. Everybody who works in horse racing: remember that everything you have-including critical things like a roof over your head, a place to sleep, food, and money you have-is because of two entities: the horses and the customers. Yes: as a business, we have made great strides in horse safety, welfare, and aftercare. But there is much more work to be done. The only people who should be working with our racehorses, and holding onto their licenses, are people who are putting the horses first. And in order to do that, strict penalties need to be put in place for rule breakers and egregious behavior. A wise man once told me, “Never run your business based on excuses.” There’s no excuse for the mistreatment of animals.
