16yrs of buying children’s shoes and school ones, the first time a pair that aren’t outgrown but don’t last because of quality. Only purchased in September and am horrified that they’ve split at the seam.

A Restore Britain Government would immediately reverse Labour's cruel VAT raid on private schools. It is leading to school closures, job losses and more pupils being forced into state schools that simply cannot cope with the additional demand - everyone then suffers, obviously. With so many students now being lumped into state schools that are already struggling, what's the result for children in those institutions? Less teacher time and stretched resources. Worse outcomes. We're told the funds raised are being used to 'support public services'. Total bollocks and we all know it. The staggering lack of any logic from this Government is so painful. Labour's private school VAT raid is really nasty politics. Restore Britain would reverse it.

@GBNEWS Uniform is important, particularly given the wide range of family finances. Without it, children who can’t afford the latest trends or expensive trainers can have a much tougher experience. Are Labour planning to support lower-income families with these costs?

'Uniforms create a sense of sameness. It's very restrictive.' 'It gives a sense of identity and belonging, and sense of occasion about attending school.' School principal Christine Cunniffe and commentator Amy Anzel debate whether schools should still require uniforms.

Some children go back to school on Monday. Not the children of St Lawrence’s College. The Govts plethora of tax rises made the school unviable. 500 kids are school less. And some people are PLEASED! I know. What f*****s would celebrate a child’s education being disrupted? 1/3

I think Ana has a point. Social mobility is often reduced to private vs state school narratives when it’s more complex. The focus on background & disadvantage can frame aspiration and success as negative or suspicious. Fairness should widen opportunity, not discourage ambition.

Something that surprises me - the 93% club says it’s under represented in the work force and blames that on Private Schools. It’s got a 93% majority. I don’t feel it’s the schools…for disclosure I went to a comp and have a degree in Broadcast Journalism. The latter apparently being dominated by Indy kids. I might start the 10% club for people who don’t have a chip on their shoulder and just work.

@GBNEWS Tracksuit culture, hoodies and matching sets doesn’t really raise standards. They’re essentially loungewear, and since COVID, tracksuits have become the norm; a trend that’s unlikely to improve anything in society.

@OfficialLouRR @vickygrayson_ Turns out VAT on education isn’t quite the money spinner Labour thought it would be and no money or benefit from this policy has found its way to the state sector. At what point does a policy sold as bringing money & teachers to the state yet fails have to be reconsidered?

@C29215274971 @TheScholar44 @OfficialLouRR 25% of private school families are in the bottom half of the household income distribution. These are likely the families that can’t afford VAT and will therefore move to the state sector. Why haven’t the families with similar incomes in the state sector improved schools?

@OfficialLouRR The answer to your question is that there is no tangible benefit delivered by putting VAT in school fees. It has ruined an entire education system. How was this in the “Best Interest of Britain “?

@MarkJohnsonTw Your maths relies on parents being able to pay the extra costs, and on schools managing lower numbers while facing higher expenses from NI and rates. Great maths there 👌🏻

@OfficialLouRR Trying to work out if you ever did maths at school. 6% of pupils in Private education, cost £25k/year £5k extra in vat Cost of state secondary education £8k Tangible benefit, more tax raised massively offsetting additional cost of provision in state sector

@alexhrbfc @TiceRichard Estimated 🤣, was that based on school closures? Was that based on unemployment from staff redundancy and benefits, was that based on more bums on state school seats 🤦🏼‍♀️….its a forecast!

@Helen_Whately @db_fink After having to find extra money to cover the VAT imposed on private schools, we’ve got far less disposable cash for days out, especially in London. Tax after tax just means less spending and fewer opportunities to get out and enjoy things.

Taking your children for a day out in London to see the sights has become punishingly expensive. But the real issue here is the relentless taxation of people who’re working - to fund ever higher benefits for those who’re not ⬇️ thetimes.com/article/d0c5e1…

This government is evil. There is no other word for it. They knew this would happen. They wanted it to happen. It's not simply the politics of envy. It's the politics of hatred. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
