All of a sudden, a pregnant mom noticed the baby wasn't kicking well. She immediately presented to the private hospital where she registered for antenatal. The medical officer on duty asked examined her and couldn't find anything wrong. Her blood pressure was normal, urine was fine and baby heartbeat was sound. To be sure, he sent her for pelvic USS which was also normal. 2 days later, she stopped perceiving any kicks at all. When she rushed back to the clinic, the baby's heart beat was silent. An urgent ultrasound revealed Intrauterine fetal demise at 36 weeks. The husband charged the medical officer to court for malpractice, of which the doctor was found guilty. He was suspended for 9 months and had to pay a settlement of 3 million naira to avoid prison. Medics, what did the medical officer do wrong and what would you have done differently in his case?
