During the Nigerian Civil War, many Igbo people fled cities like Lagos, leaving behind houses and property. Alex Ekwueme (then a young architect) left his house in Apapa.
His neighbour, Otunba Subomi Balogun, a banker did not seize the property. Instead, he removed intruders from the house, renovated it and rented it out while Ekwueme was away.
He carefully kept all the rent proceeds.
When the war ended and Ekwueme returned, Balogun handed back the house to him and gave him a full envelope of all the rent collected
Ekwueme was reportedly shocked, because many others lost their properties during that period.
About a decade later, Ekwueme became Vice President under President Shehu Shagari (Second Republic, 1979–1983). Subomi Balogun wanted to establish his own bank but faced significant hurdles at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Officials resisted because it was unprecedented for a private Nigerian citizen to own a commercial bank without foreign partners; there were also political suspicions (some alleged he might use it to finance certain politicians).
After failing to get traction through official channels, Balogun turned to his old friend. One Sunday after Church Service, he and his wife "cornered" Ekwueme at the Cathedral Church in Marina, Lagos. They physically grabbed Ekwueme and his wife's clothing to get past security and plead their case.
Ekwueme listened, reassured him, and instructed him to come to the Federal Executive Council meeting he would preside over (as Shagari was absent).
That very Thursday, the Finance Minister called Balogun to confirm that the license had been approved on Ekwueme's instruction.
This paved the way for FCMB and reportedly opened doors for other indigenous banks.
Balogun later opened an FCMB branch in Ekwueme's hometown of Oko (Anambra State) in continuation of their friendship.
We love ourselves, it is the politicians that are dividing us.

I'll give married guys some free advice...
Chase your wife around the house. You turn something on in her. You guys become children for just that 4 minutes running around. 😉
Lift her off the ground. It says something to her mind. 😉
But if you want to keep the spark alive in the middle of a busy life, add these to the list:
Take over the dinner chaos. When she is staring down the pot trying to figure out how to feed everyone, stepping in and saying, "I've got this," or just ordering the Friday night pizza or food so she doesn't have to cook, speaks directly to her soul.
Handle the unsexy logistics.
Give her the gift of absolute silence. Sometimes taking the kids out of the house for two hours so she can just exist in a quiet room without anyone needing anything from her.
Flirt with her during the ordinary moments. A wink across the room while you are both cleaning up the kitchen reminds her that underneath the heavy titles of "Mom" and "Dad," you are still just two people crazy about each other.
Notice the invisible labor. Thank her for remembering the scheduling, the grocery, and all the behind the scenes magic that keeps the house running. It bridges the gap and silently says, "I see exactly how hard you work for us."
The movie romance is great, but the trenches of everyday life are where the real connection happens.
Show up for her there.

Nigeria issued Nigerian passports to South Africans to keep them safe from the Apartheid authorities.
Nigerians imposed a tax on ourselves to donate money to South Africa's anti-apartheid fight.
Nigeria took on other countries to get support for South Africa.
Fuck you people.

There were no Zimbabweans, Nigerians, Malawians, Ghanaians when South African Children 🇿🇦were Marching against the Most Brutal Regime in the World in 1976. South Africans were on their own.

Do I have to drag you again, @nypost. Leave my family alone with your lies and click bait articles. You and your fake sources. A “family source”.. blah blah blah. Stacy Brown, you have no credibility, never have. That’s why I’ve called you a weasel in the past. And just so you know, Stacy Brown was having dinner with the prosecution team during my uncle’s trial. Stop trusting the tabloids.

I see people criticizing Asake’s new album “M$ONEY”, I understand where they’re coming from but I do not agree. If you’ve followed the progression of Asake’s career through his body of works, you would have seen this album coming from miles away. His music got softer with every new album and the bus stop was always going to be big boy music, no stress and laid back type of sound. He’s no more in the hustling phase, he’s made it, he’s now global Afrobeats superstar. It’s okay not like it cos you can’t relate to it but it’s definitely not a bad album.
In addition, the album might take time to stick but most people will definitely come around. Asake is a moving train, you better hop in and join the movement or be left with MMWTV Asake.

We Muslims find it so hard to admit this, but over the years, Christianity has quietly shown through its actions that their religion is truly one of peace.
They build hospitals, schools, charities, and help people without making too much noise about it.
Meanwhile, we Muslims keep shouting "Islam is the religion of peace" from every corner... but the results on the ground don't always match the slogan.
Be honest with ourselves for once:
Should we conclude that Christianity is actually the religion of peace?
What do you think?

Air Peace, this is unacceptable.
Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30AM at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication.
After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim hungry, exhausted, and without their bags.
Elderly passengers are struggling. Families are tired. No clear updates. No support.
Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW.
