The Rare Breed settlement is overall a net-positive thing. Its not perfect, and there is some wording that I dont like, but it moves the ball WAY forward.
I encourage you to read the whole text, and also read Rare Breeds patent.
Despite the odd wording, the settlement does nothing to make FRT's in handguns illegal, it simply does not include handgun FRT's as being protected by the settlement, and it prohibits Rare Breed from developing a hand gun FRT.
The settlement requires Rare Breed to protect their patent, but they are doing that anyway (they already started). I have read the Rare Breed patent, and its pretty clear to me that super safties do not even slightly infringe on it.
The government has agreed, in writing, not to prosecute people or companies for FRT's, and that is not limited to just the Rare Breed design or patent. Yes there are a few stipulations, but none of them exclude super safties.
And by the way, the Rare Breed patent expires in 15 years, but the settlement has no expiration.
Lets take this victory and keep inching the ball forward, just my (maybe unpopular) take.
