@OllieAutonomy

I like tech, specifically AI and autonomous vehicles. Sometimes I'll post about it. Or make a video about it.

@OllieAutonomy Evidence? All waymo would have to do is share the hours worked by remote operators.

Apparently Waymo uses remote operators in the Philippines. When I speculated 18 months ago they had 1 operator per car, I got tons of pushback. I think this news confirms it was was likely true then, and still is. Waymo makes a great product, I wish they were more open.

@NotATeslaApp Wonder if they will keep it for markets without any FSD, like the UK and Europe.

New Tesla vehicles no longer come with Autopilot included, leaving owners to decide whether cruise control is enough or to pay extra for FSD. Should Tesla have left Autopilot as a stepping stone to FSD? More Details: notateslaapp.com/news/3535/new

I collected and labelled 10k+ images and trained a machine learning model specialized in detecting Waymos from CCTV traffic cam images. I am now running that model and tracking 500+ cameras across Austin in order to spot patterns/changes in the fleet and its movement

What I learned about how $TSLA Tesla RoboTaxi works. There is one single vehicle operating in Austin at any given time. It’s like an ice cream truck. (1) You get in a vehicle and drive to its current location or destination based on the live map and expect a 20-30 minute wait time. Park your car and wait for RoboTaxi to return to your location. (2) You study the live tracking maps to find hotspot destinations where it’s most likely to make a visit, you sit with the app open for hours and wait for it to switch from “high demand” and book immediately and wait 30 minutes. How do we know it’s a single car? The bookable area always moves as a single blob in the city, never breaks away to 2 blobs. I experienced it this weekend. It’s not a RoboTaxi, it’s a single FSD demo vehicle.

🚕Tried Hailing a Robotaxi last night at 7pm Pros: the cost: $11 • Uber would of costed $24 Cons: I had to fight to reserve it - “High service demand” And then when I finally got it It was 23 minutes away 😅 I cancelled it.

@SawyerMerritt I suspect Ojai is the nickname for that particular vehicle, like how Cruise would give a nickname to each vehicle in their fleet.

NEWS: Waymo has unveiled the official name of its new robotaxi van that will start offering rides to the public this year: Ojai. The vehicle uses Waymo's new 6th-gen hardware: • 13 cameras • 6 radars • 4 LiDARs • Heaters, wipers and sprayers for sensors to keep them clean The van is built by Chinese automaker Zeekr, imported into the US, and then the 6th-gen hardware is retrofitted at Waymo's facility in Arizona. Waymo will also be adding Hyundai Ioniq 5 robotaxis to its fleet soon.

Morgan Stanley Research believes Tesla will only account for 25% of US Autonomous Vehicle Trips in 2032. • Zoox: 12% • Tesla: 25% • Waymo: 34% • Lyft: 7% • Uber: 22% This seems way too low. Tesla is the only one of these companies that manufactures its own vehicles in-house—and at a fraction of the cost of its competitors. Let’s see how well their data ages.

Today we are launching Rewind: the search engine for your life rewind.ai It’s a macOS app that enables you to find anything you’ve seen, said, or heard. We’re also announcing that we’ve raised $10m at a $75m valuation led by Andreessen Horowitz. (1/23)

@marcjoffe Cost. Rider density. Traffic. Waymo helps with the last mile transit problem, but isn't really a drop in replacement for transit.

@wongmjane Seeing this in LA too, despite the E line being really slow as there is no signal priority. Think this is having a lot to do with the weird routing off freeway (last image), otherwise it would probably be a lot more even on time.

Waymo costs $97 more (13× the price) and still 9 minutes slower than Caltrain on the same San Francisco → Palo Alto route (despite having Waymo freeway access and this Caltrain being local)
