@ASPertierra @MJ_Busta Isn’t that what she’s doing in the 2nd pic where she praises Cuba’s economic “liberalizing”? I’m confused why a focus on US policy and respecting Cuban sovereignty is preaching or dishonest, should be baseline for coalition-building and is in line with intl relations in general.

@OmarAH25 @MJ_Busta Because if the goal is to build a coalition with people outside of the minority not just in the country but in the Dems and in particular Dems in congress, a messaging strategy that's honest and even handed does that better than one preaching to the converted

@RepJayapal denunciation of the humanitarian crisis in #Cuba is grounded in empirical evidence from her trip to the island and a human rights foreign policy. Trump's oil blockade should not be carried out “in our name.” Your critique of her objectivity is, at minimum, disingenuous. Your claim that she implies the United States is the sole actor responsible for the current situation is unpersuasive. You, not she, are the one using the word "only".

@ASPertierra @MJ_Busta Why does she have to talk about the Cuban gov? Plenty of academic + media coverage delineates its contradictions and our gov’t position+discourse has been hostility and demonization. A focus on US policy is practical and less foreign dictates from US officials is a good thing.

@OmarAH25 @MJ_Busta Statements like this aren't rare. Anti-embargo statements have been made by progressives in congress for decades, along with bills to this effect. She can simultaneously focus on changing US policies and not avoid Cuban gov's role in current crisis

The Feb. 13 U.S. military boat strike killed 3 Lucian fisherman. SOUTHCOM bombed 3 more boats in the Caribbean and Pacific this week. Fisherfolk orgs say the strikes come as the Eastern Caribbean prepares for the peak of tuna season. It is their livelihood, now they fear death.
