I met with Todd Blanche and Pam Bondi after I questioned her in the Judiciary Committee. It was clear that he was involved with the botched release of the Epstein files. During tomorrow’s confirmation hearing, the Senate must demand accountability for survivors.

Under Trump, Bondi, and Todd Blanche, the Department of Justice failed to redact the personal information of survivors in the Epstein files. Today, I introduced the REDACT Act with Senator Booker to allow survivors to sue for their right to privacy and receive compensation.

This is a video of ICE agents pulling a man out of a car and handcuffing him after shooting him in broad daylight in Maine — just days after killing Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas. The blatant disregard for human life is absolutely disgusting. According to reports, there is once again no body cam footage. There must be an independent investigation immediately and real accountability measures placed on this rogue agency.

Jayapal: I’m somebody who feels like it doesn’t matter what you want to call it, but we have to disband ICE. We have to abolish ICE. Whatever word you want to use, what we need to get to is the end result: ICE should not exist as it exists. And DHS should not exist as it exists. There’s no reason for DHS to exist. Immigration is a civil enforcement matter. It is not criminal. And that’s what people keep not understanding. It is a civil enforcement matter. It used to be handled out of the Department of Justice as a civil matter. Now it’s been criminalized. It’s been put into this massive agency that was created after 9/11 that should not be there. It is completely unaccountable and sprawling.

Disband ICE. Melt ICE. However you want to say it. There’s no reason for ICE to exist as it exists.

ICE has a pattern of lying. It is disgusting and cruel. We will not stop fighting for accountability for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and everyone who has suffered at the hands of ICE’s violence.
