Vance is lying about the nuclear issue. Iran had already shown its willingness to guarantee not to build a nuclear weapon.
The major issue was clearly the control of the Hormuz. Iran wasn’t willing to give it up, and conceding that issue was an admission of defeat for the US in the Persian Gulf, something that would be attached to him in 2028.
By making it about nuclear issue, Vance is trying to spin the story as “They didn’t want to give up their nuclear weapons”, the same spin as the previous two times

@muneebqadirmmq All three demands are logical. Iran does not need a nuclear weapons program, the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway, and Iran’s proxy networks have contributed to instability in the region, including tensions with Pakistan.

US-Iran talks were bound to fail as US wants Iran to render itself completely defenseless by giving up on its nuclear programmes, its control over Strait of Hormuz as well as its proxies (Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis) in the region; everything that is unacceptable to Iran
The only positive outcome? Pakistan has emerged as a serious and responsible player in Asian geopolitics

@farwanaqvi_ The Strait of Hormuz is recognised as an international strait, governed by the principle of transit passage, meaning ships from all countries have the right to pass freely. Iran does not have sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Its demands are illegal and illogical

Pakistan asking for ‘joint control’ of the Strait of Hormuz is bizarre.
If half the world has a say over you & your sovereignty is diluted, it doesn’t make sovereignty optional for others.
Iran has made one thing clear - sovereignty isn’t for sale.

JD Vance likely viewed the deal as a key step toward strengthening his political prospects. Deal was his pathway to White House as president. He engaged in negotiations in good faith, but Iran is overestimating its leverage in the current situation.

Unfortunate but not unexpected.
Iranians have been drinking their own Kool-aid congratulating each other on their "victory" after getting all their nuclear scientists, generals and leaders killed.
Fundamental problem with Iran is they don't live in reality.

It is very important for Pakistanis to understand that Pakistan is only the venue due to the trust it has on both sides. But Pakistan is not responsible for the success or failure of the talks. There is stupidity on both sides.
