@OmegaTir

It is illuminating to ask yourself how you got the facts you base your opinion. Was it the person who told you? Or the person who told them? Or someone else?

@OakPaul @martinmbauer Probably about 10-20% of scientists if not more. Sabine Hossenfelder is a known science communicator who has had this opinion for a while. She is published in the scientific literature.

nobody reasonable actually thinks that trans women metamorphose into biological females you fucking retard. the ask is not "believe that men are women", it's "don't be an asshole". you don't have to like trans people. you do have to leave them alone.
CrashN'Burn@BangeSnuskuk

@sleepy_devo @machukorz I'd say it's about as likely as a man ever becoming a woman.

"I don't hate Jews. Just the Zionist ones. Which account for at least 80% of all Jews and who are all genocide lovers, pedos, Satan worshippers, kid killers, nazis, etc." Can you imagine saying that about 80% of any group and still pretending you are not a racist scumbag?

@mysteriouskat Given no information whatsoever, do you think it's more probable that the CIA is spying on all journalists or none (outside of legitimate investigations)?

Notice how Dave frames the CIA spying on a podcaster as fact. It's not fact. It's, as of now, an unproven allegation by Tucker. One that could be complete nonsense (eg. No investigation exists). True, and a violation of rights. Or a completely valid investigation (btw, journalists have some protections but can't break the law). Right now, none of us have the facts to know either way. Yet people have already taken firm stances to build preemptive narratives. Some are even calling for revolts.

@Leophilius Science is a process, it doesn't do anything. People do things, and people following the process are doing science. People are also flawed and take shortcuts. Almost everyone, including scientists, believe things based on authority. It's unmanageable to prove every little thing.

@Thinking_Mirror @VraserX It's not that you will get some amount of money. The idea is the cost of most goods and services will basically be zero. This is because the cost of most things ultimately comes from two sources, scarcity and labor. If you shrink labor to zero, then anything abundant is free.

A middle-class UBI sounds noble, but let’s run a simple stress test. The cost of living in New York City is far higher than in Texas. If UBI is meant to provide a middle-class life, who decides the formula? Adjust it by region and you create endless political battles. Keep it flat and purchasing power varies wildly. UBI works best as a floor, not as a full economic system.

Andrew Yang is right. Taxing AI companies will be a cornerstone of a post-labor economy. But we should go further. AI was trained on our data, our writing, our code, our images. Society created the raw material. So society should own a piece of it. Not just taxes. Shared ownership and AI dividends. If AI becomes the most productive technology in history, the wealth it creates should flow back to the people who helped create it.

Six times in 24 hours. That is how many Democratic bills Senate Republicans blocked to fund TSA, FEMA, CISA, and the Coast Guard while ICE negotiations continued. TSA workers just missed their first full paycheck. An average agent makes just under $50,000 a year. They are required to show up anyway. Hundreds have already quit. Democrats blocked a Republican short-term CR to fund all of DHS including ICE - that is also true and worth saying plainly. Two American citizens were shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. Democrats want accountability standards before more ICE funding. That argument has merit. But merit in one argument does not require holding TSA paychecks hostage to win it. Six bills were offered that would have paid the screeners and funded FEMA and kept CISA running while the harder fight continued. Six times Republicans said no. That is the specific choice that put paychecks on the line.
TSA@TSA

3+ hour TSA lines for travelers. 300+ TSA officers who have quit. A $0 paycheck for those continuing to serve. Enough is enough. No more playing politics with the lives of Americans. The Democrat shutdown of DHS must end now.

@rba3814 @PeterZeihan Unrelated, but in Europe do you say "an European", "a European", or both (perhaps regional). I just noticed your spelling and in the US we go with a European, so I was wondering.

@CraigCastleber1 @robertgraham Where talking about popular culture, not historical references. The point is to push back on the idea that "Democratic principles are good" and all that matters. The average American is generally very pro democracy and never read the constitution.

"We are a Republic not a Democracy" This is an obtuse statement Trumpists make. For example, when people complain that harsh Voter ID disenfranchises some voters, they say that's okay, because "we are a Republic not a Democracy", we don't need to bend over backwards to make voting as "inclusive" as possible. The same sort of argument applies below. For 700 years, the House of Lords (their equivalent of the Senate) has had heredity peers -- you were born to it. Now they want to change that, because of "democratic principles". One could argue against such democratic principles by arguing "but Britain is a Monarchy not a Democracy", using the same argument as Trumpists. This is silly. Democratic principles are good regardless if your country is a Monarchy or Republic. Just because a country is a Monarchy or a Republic has nothing to do with the value of democratic principles. And all "not a Democracy" means is not a "pure Athenian Democracy". We are in fact a "Democracy" in the modern usage of the word. Even though some texts written by Alexander Hamilton used the word "Democracy" to mean "Athenian Democracy", it's not how the word is used today. Today, the word by itself means "Representative Democracy", and every dictionary, textbook, or history book will confirm we are indeed a "Democracy" despite obtuse Trumpists insisting that the only meaning of the world is how it was used in one Federalist Paper that they didn't even read anyway.
