🇨🇩 Today we remember Congo's independence from Belgium (June 30, 1960). Below are some things to know about Congolese independence. Together, we will liberate Africa from colonialism and build a Pan-Africanist project. These histories live on in African people’s struggles today.

We lost our senior brother,Prof. Francis Nkrumah, yesterday. Francis lived a full life and served Ghana and Africa with distinction. Our father would be proud of him. Our thoughts are with his wife, Margaret and his daughters Nana, Nyaneba and Mansa. Travel well dear Francis.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗡𝗞𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗔𝗛 𝗗𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗗? Today marks 58 years since Pan-African icon and Ghana's founding leader Kwame Nkrumah was removed from office in a military coup engineered by the CIA. After leading Ghana to independence from British colonial rule in 1957, Nkrumah embarked on a mission to unite the African people on the continent and the diaspora. It was his firm belief that Africans share not only a common history, but a common destiny. He was one of the founding leaders of the African Union's predecessor, the Organization of African Unity, in 1963. In a key speech at the opening summit, he eloquently made the case for African unity. He explained that true independence and prosperity could only be attained if African nations united on both the economic and political front. He said this was the only way they could defeat the menace posed by the neo-colonial system, which was hell-bent on maintaining its control over the continent, even as most countries attained 'flag independence.' To the CIA, revolutionary Pan-African leaders like Nkrumah were a danger that needed to be 'neutralised.' Their words were perceived to threaten the US establishment. But don't take our word for it - take it from Kwame Nkrumah's editorial assistant, June Milne. As she relates in this clip, his book 'Neo-Colonialism, The Last Stage of Imperialism,' in which he detailed how Western countries were looting Africa's resources, was the last straw for the US, and is what spurred it into sponsoring the coup that removed him.

𝗡𝗞𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗔𝗛'𝗦 𝗗𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗘 Ghana is adding its voice to millions of others around the world calling for a just and lasting solution to the Palestine question. Protesters gathered 2 November at a major interchange named after Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first Pan-African president and prime minister. Attendees of the rally in the capital city of Accra included Nkrumah's daughter, Samia, who condemned Israel killing civilians in Gaza. Many other voices came together, isolating that of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who came under fire for voicing support for Israel, as it carries out indiscriminate bombing of civilians in the densely populated Gaza Strip for the third week in a row. As of press time, Israel has killed more than 9,000 civilians in the 7.5-mile-wide and 25-mile long enclave that borders Egypt and the Zionist state of Israel. Many have described the Gaza Strip as an open-air prison or a concentration camp. It is home to more than 2 million people, half of whom are under 18 years old. Israel's attacks have targeted sites, such as hospitals and refugee camps. Most United Nations member-states have condemned Israel in a UN General Assembly resolution, but the United States blocked two UN Security Council resolutions in mid-October that would have alleviated Palestinian suffering. However, it goes beyond the UN. The bombs dropped on Gaza are US-made. The United States funds Israel to the tune of $3.8 billion annually and has been the largest funder of the Zionist state since after World War II. Anti-Israel sentiment, as well as Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment (BDS) activism, are heavily censored and punished in US society. As international outrage grows, however, it remains to be seen whether that will make the US government yield. Let us know what you think.

Israel and Gaza are not two countries at war. Gaza is a territory under siege, where every aspect of life is controlled by Israel.

We have received multiple calls today regarding Palestinian nationals detained by ICE, and/or visited by the FBI. The FBI has also visited multiple mosques today, in different states, as well as Arab inmates. This is a troubling trend.

We demand that @ChancellorCUNY issue a statement to condemn the terror inflicted upon our students by this violence & vow to protect students from doxxing & other zionist attacks. Your demonization of Palestinians has contributed to a context in which violence is more likely.
