@Fromematt @anthonyohead (the lamp in your photo isn't a PAR 38, it's just a reflector spot of whatever wattage. Anything with a screw base and it's own reflector will do. Go lower wattage for domestic or eye candy use)

@Fromematt @anthonyohead PAR 38 is the form, E27 base. Be aware that it's harder to get filament versions of many lamp types and LED equivalents are not always dimmable.

@rsmck @Chris_Ashworth Agreed. Everything is just physics until we superimpose firmware or completely change the primary method. The case of two faces in one frame is of interest. As you know, there is little hope for the black Labrador against a dark background. Or a light one, tbh.

@OnStageLighting @Chris_Ashworth The face recognition ones perhaps need better training, but the optical contrast also needs to be there for the AI to “see” it in the first place which is harder with darker skin tones and low light more by reason of physics as opposed to any inherent bias imho.

@rsmck @Chris_Ashworth Basic autofocus systems aren't particularly high-tech. My guess is that ones that use facial recognition first would perform better. But the algo still needs setting up well.

@Chris_Ashworth I think this is a physical limitation of the device in many cases, the face detection is looking for contrast and white faces will be “easier” in that respect. It’s not exclusively a people thing either, try photographing a dark Labrador - same problem

@Chris_Ashworth Any system that relies primarily on reflected light is biased to that which it depends on to work. Would be interested to learn how this might be algorithmically overcome.
