Upham speaks of love while publicly advocating the killing of a sitting President. He claims to oppose extremism while embracing one of its most extreme expressions. Those positions cannot be reconciled. Christ commanded us to “love your enemies” and “pray for those who persecute you.” Paul wrote, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil” and “Overcome evil with good.” Nowhere does Scripture authorize Christians to declare a political opponent the Antichrist and call for his death. Upham’s biblical argument is equally unconvincing. The Bible defines the spirit of antichrist as the denial of Jesus Christ, not political disagreement, criticism of a pope, or provocative imagery. Revelations never commissions private citizens to carry out God’s judgment. That authority belongs to Christ alone. As a Marine officer, you swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath is not conditional on who occupies the Oval Office. Our Constitution provides elections, courts, and the rule of law to address political disputes. It does not authorize violence against elected officials. He also claims Republicans have supported racism “for generations.” History says otherwise. The Republican Party was founded in opposition to the expansion of slavery. Republicans led the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, ending slavery, establishing equal protection, and protecting voting rights. The historical record surrounding civil rights is more complex than modern political slogans, with support and opposition found in both parties over time. Honest history deserves better than sweeping partisan claims. None of this means Republicans are beyond criticism or Democrats are beyond praise. Christians should judge people and policies by truth, not by party. But truth requires accuracy, not revisionist history. The Marine Corps taught us honor, courage, and commitment. Christianity teaches humility, truth, and love. The Constitution teaches the peaceful resolution of political differences. Calling for the death of a political opponent violates all three. America does not need more political prophets declaring who should live or die. It needs citizens who can disagree passionately while remaining faithful to the Constitution, truthful about history, and obedient to the teachings of Christ. That is the higher standard our oath demands and the higher standard our faith requires.
