One Fair Wage

NYC Workers testified. Now the question is simple: why are they being left out? Public space should not mean poverty pay. Outdoor dining is a beautiful thing, but if it expands, it cannot be off the backs of working people. Guarantee the full minimum wage. Do the right thing.

. @LincolnRestler wants to expand outdoor dining in NYC, handing restaurants more public space & bigger profits. But restaurant workers are being left out. Amend the outdoor dining bill: any restaurant that gets an outdoor dining license should pay its workers the minimum wage.

The ballot initiative phases in increases. Large corporations (100+ employees, $1B+ revenue) reach $30 by 2030. Small businesses get a full decade. No excuses left.

Large corporations in Alameda County are posting record profits while their workers juggle multiple jobs to pay rent. The Living Wage for All Campaign launches tomorrow. Oakland has always led. This is no different.

In Alameda County, it costs $40/hr just to cover the basics for a family of four. Nearly 40% of workers don't even make $30. Oakland and Alameda County just filed ballot initiatives for a $30 living wage. No exceptions. 🧵

Chicago passed One Fair Wage. Restaurant licensing: up. Hospitality jobs: steady. Industry growth: continued. So naturally, City Council wants to freeze tipped wages and block workers' scheduled July 1 raise. Make it make sense.

Workers are signing on now. Tell Chicago City Council: don't cut our wages.

Nearly 30 organizations sent City Council a letter: don't deny tipped workers the raise they were promised. Chicago's tipped workforce is disproportionately women and workers of color. This isn't just a wage fight. It's an equity fight.

One Fair Wage: The Facts Mayor Brandon Johnson’s One Fair Wage ordinance is putting money back in workers’ pockets—spurring $6,600 in income growth for Chicago restaurant workers, the majority of whom are Black and Hispanic women living on the South and West Sides. Despite claims to the contrary, restaurants are not leaving Chicago. In fact, more restaurants are staying open. Since July 1, 2024, when the first pay increase took effect, the City has issued 1,574 new Retail Food Establishment licenses. The data shows continued restaurant industry growth and stability: • 81% of restaurant licenses were renewed in 2024. • 83% of restaurants renewed their licenses in 2025. And the industry continues to expand: • 2024: +680 net licenses • 2025: +664 net licenses More opportunity for workers. More restaurants opening their doors. Chicago moving forward.

Democrats have to listen to what working people in Chicago are calling for. I will not abandon phasing out the sub-minimum wage for tipped workers at a time when Trump's wars and tariffs are making it increasingly difficult to live and raise a family throughout the city and country. @onefairwage
