Every time I meet another Black British person who moved to the US, we always end up having the same realization: We didn’t fully see how much we were being conditioned to stay small and know our place, until we left.

Trump says TWO dumb things here: “We're gonna cut off all trade with Spain, we don't want anything to do with Spain." Then, “Spain said we can’t use their bases… We can use their bases. If we want we can just fly in and use it. Nobody’s gonna tell us not to use it.” That second statement, way to tell every other country in the world to not let the US build more bases in their countries cause once we're in, we'll just do whatever we want and ignore your sovereignty. If I'm Spain, I'm evicting all the troops and saying "come back when your leader is sane." Dude is literally trying to claim once we have presence somewhere, another nation loses its autonomy. The first statement is the super dumb one, though: Spain is part of the EU. They negotiate as one entity. Trump has no means to "cut off all trade" with an individual EU nation. That would be like the EU claiming they weren't going to trade with Kentucky anymore. It doesn't work that way, and just goes to show his complete illiteracy.

I’m dealing with a family emergency, so I won’t be doing broadcast interviews on the John Davidson Tourette’s tic at the BAFTAs story. Hearing the N word shouted at two of the most successful black actors in the world, on stage at the BAFTAs and broadcast on the BBC, was horrible. It made people uncomfortable. It should have. But it was an involuntary tic from someone who lives with Tourette’s syndrome. It was not chosen. It was not intentional. It was not an expression of belief. What’s astonishing is watching people who constantly lecture the public about inclusion suddenly abandon it the moment it becomes complicated. The same voices that demand respect for lived experience are now acting as if a neurodivergent man consciously decided to shout a slur for sport. Tourette’s is a neurological condition. It is not a political statement. It is not a moral failing. You cannot preach DEI and then punish someone for symptoms of their neurodivergence. Even the Royal Household has previously understood Davidson’s condition. Not even the late Queen was immune to his tics he said “F*ck the Queen” TO HER FACE. If that reality can be accepted there, it should not be beyond the rest of us. Two things can be true at once. The word is abhorrent. The tic was involuntary. If your commitment to inclusion collapses when it involves neurodivergence, then it was never inclusion in the first place.

You know what today has taught me? That “inclusion & diversity” doesn’t mean a goddamn thing when it comes to people with neurological/physical disabilities. The lack of awareness or understanding is exactly WHY films like “I Swear” are so important. It’s an embarrassment.

Thank you for sharing this John and I'm well aware of how Tourettes works. That's why I clearly said its a disability, it doesn't make you racist nor does it give anyone a whole new bank of words they never had. Nor does it impose 'intent' which isn't required for a racist action to be racist. My reaction is really for those quick to excuse away the racist language and the impact on Black people. What John Davidson did is objectively and overtly racist. Tourettes does not change that because the 'impact' is what defines the reality not his condition, his intent or lack thereof.

Nothing - and I mean nothing - reliably produces messages about how I should be deported, I am a foreigner etc than going into progressive echo chambers and dropping truth bombs about the impact mass immigration has had on our country. These are the people saying #bekind. It's perfectly possible to be an immigrant and pro-immigration while being against mass uncontrolled low skilled immigration. We should be attracting the best and the brightest from around the world in manageable numbers and ensuring cultural compatibility, low risk of criminal offending and no benefits for foreign nationals. I am British and proudly so. I'll keep speaking up for our country's best interests as I see them. And, by the way, most British people agree with me.
