Something I noticed. Rocky seems to behave like a bilaterian in his motions, probably because of how the puppeteers had to conceive of them, but appears to have only rotational symmetry.

I'm happy to see the alien design discourse rising back up with Project Hail Mary's release. It's a master class in how deliberately manipulative designs with equally manipulative writing like the Na'vi will never win over audience sympathy. But a sapient rock spider like Rocky or humanoid krill like Christopher Johnson from District 9 can. Because their character and the events they're written into is what draws your sympathy. Designs like the Na'vi feel fake.
