@theAveryC3 @Tys35 Why couldn’t they keep em? Because they prioritized old vets and let all their young guys go. Broberg and Holloway cost about 6+ mil, oilers signed arvidsson and skinner for 7+ mil. It was absolutely possible to keep a majority of them around they just prioritized the wrong guys

@Tys35 He’s right and wrong. A lot of those guys he mentioned wanted raises. Couldn’t keep them. But Oilers never replaced their swagger. Oilers 2 years ago had a bunch of guys with confidence and swagger but replaced them with nothing

@Tys35 Yup right on the dot. Oilers were the fastest team in the league in 2024 and was a massive part of their identity, they didn’t look slow against anyone. They got away from what was the scariest iteration of the oilers (2024) and are now old and slow

I always find takes like this about teams that fall one goal short of a Stanley Cup absolutely wild. One game 7 win doesn't retroactively change anything in the process lol Also McDavid said "WE were an average team" in a season in which yeah, his team was average.
