Tonight it looked like the @applenws was busy cranking out headlines ranging from "Tim Cook retires" to "Apple Acquired OpenAI". Turns out their Open Graph was hacked. In this video I show how the "hack" works and how you can prevent it from happing on your website. 🧵👇

@PavitraGolchha @Google Fixed! Turns out I had a few HTTP clients that could deal with Brotli compression, and a few that couldn't. Took Brotli out of the stack and all is well. And by "all is well", I mean you get a year of OG+ for $0 for throwing rocks at Insights. 🙏 opengraphplus.com/insights/tnXC3…

@PavitraGolchha @Google Yup! The image analysis tool can't deal with relative paths. That's my bad. I need to take the base URL from the page and prepend it to the path when this happens. Thanks for throwing rocks at this thing and being loud about it! Most people would have just silently left. 🙏

Incorrectly sized Open Graph images commonly crop heads & logos in weird places. In this video I debug @ycombinator's redesigned site with og.plus/tools to show how to identify & fix incorrectly sized images. Sites that use og.plus don't have to deal with these problems because it automatically renders OG images to the exact size preferred by each social network. 💪

This means when you install the ogplus CLI, sudo wont be required for the initial installation. 😎

Everybody, thank @kieranklaassen for Terminalwire no longer needing `sudo` to install! I now install to ~/.terminalwire instead of /opt/terminalwire, which dramatically reduces the friction of the `curl` installer. That makes it much easier for humans & AI to use me. 🦀😎🤖
