⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THE VOLUNTEER ARCHIVISTS It’s just as interesting to see [Srujanika] rediscover the history of publishing in Odisha, starting at the beginning of the nineteenth century. more in this fascinating review by @EAlphabets
Endangered Alphabets@EAlphabets

I'd never thought of archivists as activists until I recently watched a documentary about part-time science teachers working to archive Odia publications, and thereby rediscovering all kinds of aspects of Odia culture. Check out my column at endangeredalphabets.com/2022/11/16/the…

Gyani Maiya (1937–2020) was one of the last two speakers of the Kusunda language of Nepal. Her last wish was to see Kusunda children learn her dying language. We're in Montreal from Oct 5-7. Contact for film screening & discussion: theofdn.org/reach-out/ @ILDecade @_ELProject

[New paper] "Building a Public Domain Voice Database for Odia" doi.org/10.1145/348755… Context: I started a project for audio recordings of word pronunciations in Odia. The repository now has ~60,000 pronunciation files in Public Domain (2nd largest among South Asian languages).

Remember I had shared about the transition from legacy encoding to Unicode for Odia? Odia typefaces* are another important area that need to be discussed. So this thread is about typefaces. * Typefaces are often called fonts commonly but type designers would disagree with that!
AsiaLangsOnline@AsiaLangsOnline

Before Unicode became a widely accepted and international standard for encoding of writing systems, there existed many proprietary encoding systems. 2-3 companies selling typefaces monopolized the market with their own encoding systems. Things worked for some but not for all.
