The Iran war is driving a solar boom in the UK. @OctopusEnergy reports solar sales up 54% in March alone. @edfenergy says residential sales are running at double last spring's rate. Every rooftop solar installation is a vote against fossil fuel price volatility.

Last week we launched the Optimising Power @ Work programme at @louthcoco's third participating site, Drogheda Civic Offices. A great day was had by all and we look forward to working with the Council to deliver energy savings in this newly refurbished facility.

Statkraft, the largest producer of renewable energy in Europe, launched Ireland's first ever four-hour grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System beside its windfarm at Cushaling in Co Offaly. 15 of our larger organisations are taking part in The Big Switch Off 2025/26. This is an opportunity to go above and beyond our usual engagement activities to achieve extra savings. The campaign kicked off over the Christmas holidays and will continue to St. Brigid's weekend.

What an amazing three days at @StripeYSTE 2026 at the RDS, Dublin. Our stand was buzzing with excitement and energy! Thank you to Naoise Ó Muirí TD and Barry Ward TD for stopping by to discuss the future of wind energy innovation, education, and jobs in wind. We were particularly impressed by the 5th class girls at Mercy Convent Primary School, Naas, and their project, Whirl Power! Their quest for the perfect wind turbine blade, showcased creativity, teamwork, and scientific thinking. Shout out also to one Kerry secondary school student exploring whether Vertical Axis Wind Turbines could be used on Irish motorways - a fantastic example of young people tackling real-world challenges. Finally, a special thank you to Paul from Learn Renewables for his hands-on wind turbine demonstrations, and to all the staff at Wind Energy Ireland who volunteered on our stand. New staff member, Windy William (created for the occasion) was a big hit! We might just keep him around. #StripeYSTE2026

Wind Energy Ireland is delighted to have been able to support another year of climate and wind energy education lessons for primary school students across Ireland including – Waterford, Kerry, Clare, Kilkenny and Westmeath in 2025. Our work with STEAM Education in classrooms has been ongoing since 2021 and in that time reached almost 800 students. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with teachers calling for wind farm visits for the students who completed the lesson pack. Watch this space!
