BMW offers 44% discounts in China Need a BMW i3 in China? You're lucky because it is 44% off. Foreign brands are having a difficult time in China. They can only survive with large discounts. Let's have a look at BMW. It has one joint venture in China: Brilliance-BMW. It makes a wide lineup of sedans and SUVs for the Chinese market, including several China-only models like the BMW i3 sedan. The company was quite successful in the 2010s and early 2020s. Its best month in absolute numbers was January 2022 when it sold 79.087 cars. Its bent month in market share was January 2023 with 4.38%, which was good for the seventh place in the sales rankings. Today, things don't look as good. In November 2025, BMW sold 45.009 cars in China. That was good for a 2.02% market share en the 16th place in the rankings. To turn that around, BMW dealers offers steep dealer discounts. Super steep! Let's have a look: 1) BMW i3: max dealer discount: 44%. 2) BMW iX1: max 43% dealer discount. 3) BMW X1: 41% off. 4) BMW iX3: 37% off. 5) BMW i5: 29%. 6) BMW 3-Series: 29%. All cars are made at Brilliance-BMW. In monetary terms, it looks like this: the BMW i3 eDrive 35 L has a list price of 353.900 yuan ($50.6K). With dealer discounts of up to 44%, Chinese consumers can buy it for around 198.000 yuan ($28K). The discounts aren’t as extreme as those seen at Jaguar or Mercedes-Benz (see earlier tweet), but they are still substantial. BMW is also offering steep discounts on imported models—more so than Mercedes—but imports account for only a small fraction of total sales, so they are not included in this list. Overall, BMW is performing far better than other non-Chinese brands such as Chevrolet and Peugeot, both of which have fallen beyond the top 50 in the rankings. I’ll cover those cases in later posts. @BMW @BMWGroup #China #ChineseCars #AutoChina #PriceWar #BMW
