@UrbanCourtyard @Noahpinion Yards r meant to be isolated from community. The yards in Japanese cultures r the parks which are SOOO much better. Especially in gated communities where you know you can let your kids out of the house to the park. What is point of a yard if it’s not to be played w/ someone else.

This may not be a viable model for American cities wishing to grow their population by reurbanizing middle class families who move to suburbs for house with a yard

Urbanists should focus less on architecture and more on urban form. Japanese residential areas look like this. It works because it's walkable, dense, mixed-use, and safe.
