abandonment.
The biblical writers were not naïve about this at all.
For example:
Saul spirals psychologically through status insecurity.
David collapses into despair repeatedly.
Job experiences total social annihilation.
Elijah becomes suicidal.
Ecclesiastes openly questions existence itself.
Scripture does not portray human psychology as lightly affected by social reality.
