My opinions don't confine me to one echo chamber. Sorry manosphere and feminists. Enjoy the balanced perspective you don't realize you desperately need.

Things men need from their wives but shouldn’t have to ask for them: • Initiating intimacy
• Building him up in public and in private
• Random physical displays of affection
• Saying “thank you and I trust you”
• Choosing him over attention from others Wives who master these without him having to ask for it, have husbands who can’t wait to go home.

If you have been following along with Avis’s progress back to the NPC stage as a now 52-year-old woman after taking more than a decade-long break, she competed in the Fit Model division at a show this past weekend and placed 1st in 50+, 3rd in 40+, and 6th in open Class A (all ages). It was the first of three shows we have planned for her to compete in this summer. The attached video is her onstage doing her posing routine at prejudging. This gives the judges a chance to look at her before they compare her side by side with the other contestants in the classes she competed in. If you’re interested in why I’ve been sharing this topic on an account focused on marriage, along with videos, pictures, and details of how the show unfolded this weekend, keep reading. Among all the things we talk about here, one underlying theme we keep coming back to is this: we want marriage to be as easy as possible. The easier a marriage is, the less drama, regret, and resentment it has, and the more genuinely enjoyable and valuable it becomes. It’s a simple, straightforward concept when you read it, but a surprising number of married couples seem clueless about the idea. They’ve never thought it, heard it, or seen it plainly stated. For those who want to know the “secret” to how we’ve stayed married for over 30 years in a marriage we both genuinely enjoy, there it is: We try to make marriage as easy as we can on each other. Don’t read that as meaning there isn’t work involved. There is. But the purpose of the work is to make our marriage itself easy. The primary reason Avis got back on stage this year is in the spirit of keeping our marriage easy for me, and I encouraged her to do it for that reason. As a man, like most every other man, I enjoy women who keep themselves attractive and fit. It’s okay and very realistic for husbands to be honest about that with ourselves and with our wives. Thankfully, because Avis lives in reality with me, she has done a great job of keeping herself attractive to me over the decades we’ve been together. That hadn’t changed when I encouraged her to get back into stage shape and compete again after more than a decade away from it. But we aren’t a lazy couple and I want us to keep our foot proactively on the gas when it comes to keeping our marriage easy, no matter how old we get. Related to this specific topic of her keeping marriage easy for me, her getting back on stage is a bit of an “extreme” way of keeping the pedal to the metal. And yes, there are things husbands need to be doing in the same spirit to keep marriage easy for their wives as well, but that’s a different post. The secondary purpose of Avis getting back on stage is that I wanted to use what she is doing as a real-world example that I hope encourages other married couples by showing that the doom-and-gloom narrative we hear so often on this app (wives getting married, having a couple of kids, getting fat, and cutting off sex) is not the absolute or unavoidable condition it is sometimes presented as being in marriage. The doom-and-gloom scenario absolutely does happen, and far more often than it should. But it’s not a guarantee, and plenty of wives do a very good job of not letting it happen - and give their best during the marriage vs waiting for a post divorce glow up to give it. We just don’t hear about them as often. The intent here is not to say that what Avis (a mom who has given birth to our three kids) is doing is the only way to prevent a doom-and-gloom outcome. It’s simply to show not only can it be prevented, married life can actually still be darn good even in your 50’s and no one should be giving up on doing what you can to keep a marriage easy at any age, young or old. The reality is that even putting in half the effort she is would be more than enough to keep a marriage in a good place on this topic for most husbands. Okay, with all that out of the way, let me break down how the weekend unfolded at the show: ⬇️⬇️

Life will test every single one of us. The difference between people who rise and people who break is not the battle they face, it’s the mindset they bring into the battle. A weak mind looks at obstacles and sees the end. A strong mind looks at obstacles and asks, “What can I do to overcome this?” Your thoughts become your actions. Your actions become your reality. Protect your mind, it shapes your future.

@GiaMMacool sorry gotta ask, when youre watching loved ones die does mindset really rebuild everything or are we glossing over how empty those silver linings feel without deeper support.

@GiaMMacool Completely agree. 👏 Most "what ifs" only exist in our heads. 99% of the things we fear never actually happen. Our hesitation and fear are what hold us back from stepping out. God is leading us forward; it's our strong mindset and faith that let us follow. ✝️🙌

@GiaMMacool Beautiful word - thank you. I often quote Philippians 4:11-13 about his secret in any situation which is “I can do all things through Christ gives me strength.”

Sending you and your husband my sincere love and prayers Gia. We underestimate what a positive mindset and faith can do in our lives. We may not understand the struggles that come in our lives but there are always reasons for it. 💗 Your husband is blessed to be surrounded by love and love is one of the only glimpses we are permitted of eternity.
