I edit books, often memoirs, for people who may not think of themselves as writers (or may) and want to make sure that their writing is up to professional standards while also conveying their personalities, their verve and spark, and their important them…lnkd.in/gvU6itT8

@ambernoelle tell her that all writers look at their first drafts as the foundations; then they go to work on the second, then the third, and so on. . . till it does live up to the vision in her head. You can tell her that because it's the truth. I know: I'm a freelance editor.

@meggyputs Never. You might consider revising - or you might just find another 10 agents and send off another 10 query letters... Meanwhile, what we do in our writers group is cheer whenever one of us receives a rejection. That's a step towards the goal.

Well. I don’t think I’m in a maybe pile anymore. Yet another rejection. When do you give up? #amquerying

Just came across this quotation from Richard Price on WritersWrite.com: "The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. "You don't write about the horrors of war. No. "You write about a kid's burnt socks lying on the road." Good advice.

"#writerslift I'm new to #writereslift. I'm a line editor (developmental editor, book coach), and I'm not sure how this works. I've followed several people who requested it, and I don't even know if they have followed me back. How can I find out?

@mekhala_saran Learning the ropes of writing query letters and getting an agent vs. submitting to a publisher is an important part of writing a novel and getting it out to the public. You might check out P2P - Pitch to Publish, which offers a series of events that might help you get into it.

I'm hoping to get my 1st novel published, but I'm terrified of pitching to publishers and never hearing back from them. This isn't my first manuscript, I literally gave up on the one I wrote before this after a renowned publishing house didn't bother sending even a 'no'.

@wilwrite Rebekah - I can't believe none of John McPhee's books on writing came up - starting with "Magic of the 4th Draft." Or William Zinnser's stuff? No mention? Sorry I wasn't there ☺️

@princetonwcrew Well rowed, Princeton! It looks like you were at a fairly high stroke all the way through this clip. And rowing clean. Good job. Congratulations and welcome to the Championship Circle . Jim Newcomer, Capt. Princeton MLC, 1957, EARC and Henley winners

@princetonwcrew @IvyLeague @row2k @PUTIGERS Whoever wrote your Tweet's headline today still has to learn the basic lesson of writing about rowing: never write "crew team." A crew IS a team. That mistake marks the writer as an outsider. That said, good luck Sunday. 😀 Jim Newcomer, Captain 1957 Men's Lightweight Crew
