I saw a tweet a few days ago about someone whose success inspires one the most. I have a number of such, but this friend here is one of them. Final year in Ife in 2005/2006, paying N15k or N17k was a struggle. We both wrote Vetiva test after we graduated in November 2006. They sent him an SMS that he passed the test. I did not receive SMS. He joined me in squatting in my bro's BQ anytime he came to Lagos from Osun to write job tests/interviews at the time, so I asked him to give me the number Vetiva used to to text him. I called Vetiva. It happened to be a mistake. I got the interview invite too. Long story short, I got the Vetiva job (pre NYSC job). He didn't. When I got in and was informally chatting with HR on why my friend didn't get the job, I was told it was because he stopd his ground on some questions during the interview and he was considered potentially arrogant. We moved on. 2007 - NYSC, me in Sokoto, he in Maiduguri. We both wrote StanbicIBTC tests too and got the job around the same time as Vetiva. He served in StanbicIBTC branch in Maiduguri. I never took the Stanbic offer. 2008 - we returned from NYSC, back to Lagos. Shell was recruiting. We both applied and were acing all stages. We both got to final stage of Shell - called SRD. Somehow, I didn't attend. He attended and got the job. Shell graduate trainee. 2008. His life changed from there. Later, I got to work with one of the Shell managers that interviewed him and also worked with him later, Oga @jamesodiase, who had left Shell and joined us at @Savannah_Energy, a company I worked later. He said this guy was one of the smartest folks he had ever come across. And one of the reasons he is a star at Shell is his assertiveness. Even if you are his boss and he shares a different view with you, he will disagree with you respectfully. An action that was interpreted as assertiveness. Same quality one prospective employer interpreted as arrogance in 2006 is what is making him shine in another company, on a rapid trajectory. By 2014/2015, he had risen to manager level in Shell, succeeding Olu Veirheijen (now highflying SA to President Tinubu on Energy) as Business Opportunity Manager for Shell Nigeria. Getting to manager level in an IOC within 7 years after recruitment as GT is no small fear. Even more, becoming a senior manager in another country's Shell Operations, Albania, within 13 years of joining. Commercial is one of the biggest roles in an IOC, so leading commercial function for Shell in an European country is a big deal . The young man that could barely afford N17k school fees in 2005. And was turned down by an investment firm in 2006. A life-changing job with Shell in 2008 changed the trajectory. All he had - Bsc Economics (first class, OAU) and a brain good enough to convince his interviewers in Shell to give him a chance. His story inspires me. Don't bother searching for him . This is perhaps his only picture on the Internet, which was posted on official duty for his company. No social media account. Not even LinkedIn.

Sat on my phone and the phone scrambled and forwarded an anti Jew article to my boss. I hadn’t even seen the message myself (one of those chain messages people forward to groups). He was the only Jew in my over 2000 contacts. Why was he the contact the phone picked? Could be because he was my most frequently emailed person, but how that message scrambled and got sent to him remained a mystery. Sent an apology and he never made anything of it. Whether he was convinced it was truly a random butt message, I never knew, but it never affected our personal relationship.

Had an interview with a “crypto” recruiter. We talked for about 40 minutes, and then they asked me to look at some code. Their first instruction was to clone the repo. I didn’t. They seemed surprised, so I told them I wanted a moment to check whether it was safe first. I ran a quick analysis with Claude. Turns out the code had a backdoor. It would copy my environment variables and send them to a remote server. The recruiter went speechless and ended the call pretty quickly. Be careful who you talk to. Scammers are real.

An update on the April 13 Hyperbridge Token Gateway exploit. Our initial loss estimate of approximately $237K has been revised upward to approximately $2.5M, with most of the increase reflecting losses from incentive pools across Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, and Arbitrum.

The /start page on @getpartna's new website isn't the version I actually want. The version I want is self-serve. Just sign up, plug in the API, start moving money. We're not there yet. So in the meantime, we built this.

Real money has been lost & we're working with security teams & the relevant authorities to trace & recover the exploited funds. We will share more updates as more progress is made.
Hyperbridge@hyperbridge

Security Update: Token Gateway exploit On April 13, 2026, a vulnerability in Hyperbridge’s Token Gateway was exploited, resulting in approximately $237,000 in losses on Ethereum. Bridging operations were paused immediately after detection, and this is an update on the situation. 🧵
